PENANG: The Penang Lawn Tennis Association's (PLTA) dream of having their own academy has come true.

Long-serving president Datuk Sonny Soon, who decided to call it a day after holding office for more 30 years, said the RM1.2mil academy will take shape the moment the allocated land at Medan York is released to the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP).

“Negotiation for the piece of land between the Penang State Sports Council (PSSC) and MPPP has entered its final stage,” said Sonny in his final address at the association’s AGM recently.

“It will not be easy for anyone to step into his shoes, taking into consideration what Sonny had done for tennis in the State,” said Leslie.

The other office bearers are: Vice-presidents: Gilbert Chan, Francis Su; Secretary: Francis Choong; Treasurer: Janet Loo and committe members: Jonny Cheah (Sengel), Yusof Ismail (PDC), Shamsul Ismail (Customs), Steve Teoh (Hitachi) and Mrs Christine Cheah (BJCC).
