Turtles not afraid of Elephants

KUCHING: Pahang look too good but Terengganu have no intention of lying down and dying when the two sides meet in an east coast derby at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in K. Terengganu tonight.

Terengganu coach Tajuddin Noor, who is in his first season with the Turtles, said there are simply too many stars in the Pahang team.

Among them are former Terengganu heroes Hairuddin Omar, Rosdi Talib and Subri Sulong.

“When you talk about experience, Terengganu are nowhere near Pahang. Ours is a very young team ... a team made up mostly of players from the President's Cup squad.

“Their inexperience could lead to our downfall. However, the players are a committed lot and have shown tremendous fighting spirit,” he said from Kuala Terengganu.

But Tajuddin takes consolation from the fact that Pahang can be beaten as shown by Perlis who won 2-1 in Kuantan last week.

Meanwhile, Pahang coach Ralf Borges Ferreira, wants his team to remain focussed on the Terengganu match and forget about the defeat by Perlis. He is also counting on Brazilian midfielder Helton Soares Pereira to command the midfield.

“Helton was in total command in the midfield in our FA Cup victory (1-0) over Kelantan. If he can show the same performance, we will be able to match our opponents,” said Ferreira.
