Sarawak and Johor FC eager to notch first league win

By RIZAL ABDULLAH

KUCHING: Sarawak and Johor FC will both be on identical missions when they square up against each other in tonight's Premier I match at Kuching's Sarawak Stadium. Both will be looking for their first win in three matches.

Johor FC, dubbed the Hornets, are in deeper waters than the Crocs. While Sarawak have at least scored five goals but have an equally porous defence that has conceded seven goals, Johor FC have yet to score a goal after two matches.

Given the situation, Johor FC are desperate. And technical and coaching director Ronald Smith, who is now back in Australia to attend to some personal matters, has left specific instructions to coach Azuan Zain to play former national midfielder Idris Karim as a striker, partnering Australian Jon Angelucci.

Angelucci's barren run in the league is another worrying factor for Johor FC. Idris comes in for the off-form Azmi Mohamad. Azmi, a former international was not even on the plane when Johor FC left for Kuching.

Azuan will also be making a change between the posts with former national number one Mohd Sany Fahmi coming in for G. Jeevananthan.

Statistics are another bother for Azuan. Last year, Johor FC were soundly beaten 3-1 by the Crocs. Johor FC had triumphed 2-0 at Pasir Gudang. And Azuan would not want a repeat of what happened in Kuching last year.

“With two defeats behind us things don't look too good for us. This is our third straight game playing away.

“And we have yet to score a goal after two matches ... something which is very disturbing,” said Azuan after a training session.
