KUALA LUMPUR: Former national football hero Syed Ahmad Syed Abu Bakar, who is suffering from a heart ailment, will receive due attention from the FA of Malaysia (FAM).
FAM secretary-general Datuk Dell Akhbar Khan said they were deeply concerned about former and current players' welfare and would do their best to help them.
He was commenting on a newspaper report that Syed Ahmad, 57, was snubbed when he approached FAM for help.
Syed Ahmad, who helped Malaysia qualify for the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, will undergo a coronary artery bypass surgery at the National Heart Institute on Friday.
“I will bring up this matter at the FAM meeting to get president Sultan Ahmad Shah's opinion on what assistance can be given,” Dell said.
“Assumptions that FAM did not take the matter seriously are not true. I only received a telephone call from Syed Ahmad and we did not get any letter asking for assistance.”
Dell did not elaborate on the kind of assistances to be given. – Bernama
