MSS Perlis stun Penang Free School in Division 2 clash

BERTAM: MSS Perlis stunned fancied Penang Free School 2-1 in a Division Two MHF-Milo NSC-Admiral Junior Hockey league at the Bertam Hockey Complex yesterday.

The Perlis side struck with two first half goals through Mohd Aimi Jamaluddin in the seventh minute and Md Amirul Abdullah in the 26th minute.

Free School replied through Md Fahmi Zakaria in the 44th minute but it was not enough as Perlis held on to register their fourth win in five outings.

For Perlis, the win gave them 12 points and kept them on course for a berth in the last eight.

“It was a valuable three points that we have collected here today and I am proud of the way my players have performed,” said Perlis team manager Shurizan Mansor.

“Although we are newcomers to the League, it has strengthened our hopes of finishing in the top two and fulfil our initial target of a quarter-final berth.”

Yesterday's defeat put a big dent in Free School's hope of a quarter-final berth.

Coach Yap Gark Soo said the fumbles by the forwards contributed to the defeat.
