LONDON: Much has changed for Ernie Els since he gave that golf gremlin on his shoulder a potential knockout blow by winning last year's British Open. The big South African has a new ball; new clubs, new clothes and new confidence. But one thing has not changed: He keeps getting asked about Tiger Woods.
At least the questions are new. Instead of asking Els to comment on Woods (a) latest round; (b) latest victory; (c) next round or (d) next victory, the increasingly large chattering and scribbling class that follows golf is asking Els about when he and Woods will be playing their next round together and whether Els finally feels as if he is in a position of strength instead of weakness after winning four of his first five tournaments this year.
