Karu the major casualty in MCA elections

KUALA LUMPUR: After 12 years at the helm as secretary, former international Karu Selvaratnam was ousted at the Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) biennial general meeting at the Wisma OCM here yesterday. 

Former executive secretary C. Sivanandhan is the new secretary. He won the vote at 18-11. He served the MCA from 1996-2000 and also served the MSSM as their technical chairman for the sport. 

The BGM also saw another new face in Datuk Abdul Azim Mohamed Zabidi who was returned unopposed as the new deputy president. He takes over from Johor's Dr Harjit Singh who declined nomination. 

Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja'afar, who is also the president of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, retained his post as president. Treasurer P. Khrisnasamy also retained his post without a challenge. 

Incumbent vice-presidents Datuk Dr Amarjit Singh and Dr Jaspal Singh kept their place for a new term while N. Rasanayagam, B. Satgunasingam, Charlie Chelliah and Lt Kol Gerard Singham are the council members.
