PETALING JAYA: Malaysian women bowlers won fewer matches but still maintained their second position in the World Tenpin Team Cup at the Odense Bowling Hall in Denmark here yesterday.
The team led by three-time Asian top bowler Shalin Zulkifli won only five out of their nine matches in the third round to drop 14.5 points behind leader England.
After completing 27 matches, England are still ahead by a massive 68.5 points. The US, who trailed Malaysia in the first two days, collected 54 points yesterday to tie with the Malaysians.
In the yesterday's third round, Malaysia won their matches against France (2-1), Mexico (2-1), Italy (2-1), Australia (3-0) and Greece (3-0). But they were edged 1-2 by the United States, Holland and England. They also lost 0.5-2.5 to Denmark.
Meanwhile, the going is getting tougher for the Malaysian men.
They dropped from fourth to sixth spot after the second round.
The team only won five of their nine matches and amassed 31.5 points, 1.5 points behind joint fourth placed Canada and the US.
Sweden took over the lead from Finland with 42 points followed by the Finns with 36 points. Trailing at third place are England with 34.5 points.
