PETALING JAYA: Newly-crowned All-England champion Mohd Hafiz Hashim may find himself with new individual sponsors.
Yesterday, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Datuk Nadzmi Mohd Salleh said they would give him a little more than the normal incentive.
“We should not penalise Hafiz because of somebody's past mistakes. He has done well and he deserves to be rewarded. I agree with the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s call not to spoil Hafiz. But he deserve a little more for his achievement,” said Nadzmi.
“Germany's (F1 driver) Michael Schumacher should be a role model He wins and gets a lot of money but he continues to do well.”
Under the BAM scheme, a player who wins a title would be given 25% of the total prize money won. Hafiz won US$10,000 (RM38,000) for the All-England singles crown.
“Besides the incentives, we may try to get individual sponsors for Hafiz.”
