Shuttler ends Malaysia's 37-year All-England wait

PETALING JAYA: Mohd Hafiz Hashim was not even born when a Malaysian last won the prestigious All-England men's singles crown. But yesterday, at the National Indoor Stadium in Birmingham, the Nusa Mahsuri shuttler made the nation proud by becoming the first Malaysian to win the title since Tan Aik Huang back in 1966.

The 20-year-old Hafiz produced a scintillating performance, including a magnificent fightback in the first game, to stun top seed and defending champion Chen Hong of China 17-14, 15-10 in the final.
