Zambian Chepita scores hat-trick to give Perlis dream start

BY RONNIE OH

KANGAR: Zambian striker Phillimon Chepita's brilliant hat-trick gave Perlis a dream start to their Premier I campaign as they outplayed Terengganu 4-0 at Stadium Utama here last night.

Perlis took to the field minus another Zambian, Kelvin Mugange, whose International Transfer Certificate (ITC) failed to reach the FA in time.

But Chepita made sure his compatriot's absence was not felt with goals in the sixth, 46th and 69th minutes. Defender Suhaili Abdul Karim added the other goal in the 59th minute.

Perlis needed just six minutes to draw first blood. Terengganu goalkeeper Zubir Ibrahim failed to hold on to a Rosle Md Derus left-footed piledriver, allowing Chepita to plant the loose ball into the net.

Perlis continued to dominate the game but failed to add to their tally until a minute after the break.

Rosle raced down the left flank and floated in a cross which Chepita nodded past Zubir to put Perlis 2-0 up.

Terengganu were hanging on for their dear lives when Perlis struck for the third time. This time Suhaili finished off a move initiated by Hairil in the 59th minute.

Chepita compounded the Turtles' misery with his hat-trick when he nodded home a Tengku Hamzan free kick for their fourth goal in the 69th minute.
