PEBBLE BEACH (California): Kevin Sutherland took advantage of his familiarity with the course to shoot a six-under-par 66 and claim the first-round lead at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on Thursday.
Sutherland, 38, birdied five of the first nine holes en route to building a one-shot lead over Canadian Mike Weir and Robert Gamez, both of whom opened with five-under-par 67.
