LONDON: A winner's purse of US$1 million will be up for grabs for the first time in women's tennis at the season-ending WTA Tour Championships in November, the WTA said on Tuesday.
Announcing the most lucrative prize in women's sports history, which surpasses the US$900,000 earned by Serena Williams for her triumph at the 2002 US Open, the WTA also outlined plans to introduce a new format to the championships.
