LONDON: England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson believes it is time for 39-year-old goalkeeper David Seaman to stop playing friendly internationals.
“I don't think David Seaman should be playing friendly games any more,” Eriksson told students in the packed chamber of the Oxford Union debating society on Thursday.
England are to play Australia in a friendly at West Ham's Upton Park ground on Feb 12.
Eriksson praised Seaman’s display in Wednesday's 2-2 Premier League draw against Liverpool.
“I know he is a certain age but he still is doing very well.”
Eriksson acknowledged that calling up Premier League players for friendlies angered club managers. “It will always be a problem because it's a conflict of interest,” he said. – Reuters
