KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Football Association (TFA) yesterday heaved a huge sigh of relief after they received RM163,000 assistance from the Youth and Sports Ministry.

TFA president Datuk Che Mat Jusoh said the association expected to receive RM270,000 from the ministry soon.

“This assistance is for the year 2002 which we applied through the State Youth and Sports Department,” he said after a function held to cement a sponsorship deal for the Terengganu M-League squad here.

Che Mat said the funds received from the ministry would be used for TFA's development programmes apart for staging state-level tournaments.

He also said the cash-strapped TFA are expected to receive the annual grant from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) next month.

“This grant will help us to solve some (cash flow) problems which we are experiencing at the moment,” he said.

The TFA plunged into a financial crisis after the PAS-led state government stopped its annual allocation for the association from the year 2000. – Bernama
