JOHOR BARU: Sabah's new signing, goalkeeper Zaidi Hanifa, has disappeared. And with just over a week to the start of the new season, Sabah are not amused.

The Rhinos are even more incensed because Zaidi, a former third choice goalkeeper from Kuala Lumpur Malay Mail, only signed a one-year contract just two weeks ago.

Coach Justin Ganai, speaking in a telephone interview from Kota Kinabalu yesterday, said he would leave Zaidi's case in the hands of the management as he wants to concentrate on the team's training.

Sabah FA executive secretary Harry Baking said Sabah are bound to take disciplinary action against the player.

“Zaidi has not even bothered to reply to a show cause letter issued by the Sabah FA (Safa),” said Harry from Kota Kinabalu.

“Zaidi signed a one-year contract with Sabah in early January. Then, he simply disappeared without news. We sent him a show cause letter more than a week ago but there has been no news.

“We gave him seven days to reply. Sabah will wait for another day or two and subsequently inform the FAM (FA of Malaysia).”

Meanwhile, Sabah have recruited local Asmawi Tair as the team's reserve goalkeeper.
