RAWANG: Yuan Yufang is on the right track to defend her title in the Kuala Lumpur Marathon next month after easily winning the Federal Territory cross country race in Templer Park in here yesterday.
The 27-year-old Yufang, representing KL, clocked 29:15 to win the 6.5km race. The victory earned her RM300.
Bukit Jalil Sports School’s Vally Michael (31:13) and Norlida Ismail (32:34) finished second and third respectively. Vally received RM200 and Norlida pocketed RM100.
Yufang, who is an accomplished walker, said that she never expected to win the race easily because it was only her first competition in cross country running.
“This is a good start to the year and I will continue training harder to defend my title in the KL Marathon on Feb 16. My aim is to better my own national record of 2’49,” said Yufang.
In the men’s race, M. Arul Thevar emerged as the winner for the third consecutive time.
The 25-year-old Arul ,who donned KL City Hall colours, won the 10km race in 28:08.
U. Vicknasvaran of Armed Forces clocked 31:57 to finish second while Tan Sek Ree of Police came in third in 40:64.
