Chong Wei becomes second youngest national champion

KUALA LUMPUR: Youngster Lee Chong Wei punched his fists in the air, screamed in delight and rolled over on court. He had reason to celebrate. He had become the national badminton champion – and only the second youngest ever.

Chong Wei, who will turn 21 in October, beat senior player Ismail Saman 15-12, 15-7 at the SBA Hall here in Kampung Attap, to get his first local Open title. And the biggest local title came a day after his biggest win, when he had beaten national number one Wong Choong Hann in the semi-finals.
