LONDON: Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier has identified Southampton’s French winger Fabrice Fernandes as the wide player he has been seeking to bolster his squad, according to media reports Friday.
Houllier, who has previously been linked to potential bids for Harry Kewell and Blackburn’s Damien Duff, is preparing a £4 million (US$6.5 million) swoop for the 23-year-old Frenchman, according to The Sun newspaper.
The French manager was swift to dismiss speculation about a move before the transfer window closes next week.
“I have been linked with four or five players in the papers this morning,” Houllier said. “That’s quite good for a manager who has said he won’t be signing anybody before January 31.”
“At this time of year agents get more and more involved. I understand that and it’s part and parcel of football.” – AFP
