STOCKHOLM: Australian swimming great Ian Thorpe claimed he had swum his greatest ever 400m short course race here on Tuesday as he came within five hundredths of a second of breaking compatriot Grant Hackett’s world record.
The 20-year-old ‘Thorpedo’ posted a time of 3:34.63sec just short of Hackett’s mark (3:34.58) set in Sydney last July on the penultimate meet of the World Cup series.
