Perlis bowlers to make debut in inter-state meet

SUBANG: Perlis will be competing for the first time in the 16th inter-state bowling championships, which begin today at the Pyramid Mega Lanes here. 

The championships have attracted 14 teams. Besides Perlis, the others in the fray are Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Pahang, Perak, Penang, Sarawak, Terengganu, Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Negri Sembilan and Sabah. 

The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress' (MTBC) secretary, Sidney Tung, said yesterday: “Perlis do not have a bowling centre but they have managed to put up a team to compete in the men's, women's and boys' categories  

“They have been training in Alor Star. We are glad to have the biggest number of entries for this year's championships.” 

Defending champions Selangor, powered by national bowlers, among them Wendy Chai, Sarah Yap, Alex Liew, Zulmazran Zulkilfi, Ng Yiew Hup, Gerald Samuel and Daniel Lim, are favoured to retain the overall title.
