Youzhny knocks out Novak, looks forward to Roddick

MELBOURNE: Russian Davis Cup hero Mikhail Youzhny enhanced his rapidly growing reputation by beating seventh-seeded Czech Jiri Novak 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the last 16 of the Australian Open yesterday, then declared: “This is easy.”

Youzhny, a late substitution for Yevgeny Kafelnikov, famously won the deciding rubber to give Russia victory over France in the Davis Cup final in Paris last month in an atmosphere the 20-year-old said was far more intimidating than a grand slam.
