Festival of violence at South American Under-20 tournament

MONTEVIDEO: South America’s Under-20 Championship, billed as stage for budding Diego Maradonas or Peles, has instead degenerated into a festival of violence, play-acting and all-round bad behaviour.

Fourteen red cards and 101 yellows were dished out in the 20 first stage matches and Uruguayan hopeful Guillermo Rodriguez, who scored two goals in his team’s first couple of games, broke his leg against Peru.
