AUCKLAND: Australians Craig Jones and Alan Patterson made the most of ideal conditions to set the first-round pace in the New Zealand Open yesterday, firing matching scores of six-under-par 66.
The 33-year-old Jones, playing his first tournament of the year, mixed eight birdies with a double-bogey at the par-four 14th to head the leaderboard in the morning before he was caught by little-known Patterson in the afternoon.
