KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Youths and Sports have received the endorsement from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) to set up a motor sports commission in Malaysia.
Datuk Hishamuddin Hussein said that the FIA's president, Max Mosley, supported Malaysia's idea in a meeting in London last week.
Mosley has indicated his support in this matter and added that as far as the FIA are concerned, this will help improve motor sports in Malaysia, said Hishamuddin.
Mosley said that he was happy to see that the government is assisting them in developing motor sports.
The Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM) are Malaysia's affiliate to the FIA.
Racers need to get their licence and endorsement from the AMM to compete in FIA-sanctioned events.
To receive the endorsement, one needs to be a member of AAM. That is a bit unfair to non-members.
This commission is being set up to make sure that everybody receives the same action, said Hishamuddin.
He added that the AAM would be represented in the commission, which was expected to be formed in one or two months' time.
The commission will be tasked with regulating and developing motor sports in Malaysia.
Hishamuddin added that he was looking at whether a Bill needed to be tabled in Parliament before the commission could function.
