MALACCA: Former Malaysian number one amateur Airil Rizman earned a place in the final stage of the Asian PGA qualifying school after finishing tied 17th in first stage at the A'Famosa Golf Club here on Saturday.
Airil, who turned professional last year,shot rounds of 74-74-72-72 for a four-over 292, which placed him among the 61 qualifiers for the final stage where 40 Asian PGA Tour cards are at stake.
Japan's Yoshinobu Tsukada and American Patrick Beste took the honours in Stage One, which was played in two venues.
Tsukada shot a four-under 68 final round for a total of 11-under 277 to finish one stoke ahead of American Jason Knutson at the A'Famosa. The competition in A' Famosa provided 31 qualifiers for the final stage.
Beste also shot a final round 68 to finish tops at the Orna Golf and Country Club here with a total of 287 – two shots in front of Australian Scott Strange. The top 30 at Orna made the cut for the final stage qualifiers.
