KUALA LUMPUR: Only eight teams met yesterday's deadline for submitting the team list for the Malaysia Junior Hockey League.
A record number of 23 teams had entered for the MJHL this year and entries closed on Jan 8.
For the first time, the MHF had decided to extend the deadline for the registration of players.
Prior to this, teams had to submit the list along with their entries.
Entries closed on Jan 8.
Sri Aroma-PISC and Malacca MC were the only teams to submit their team list on Jan 8.
Over the last two days, Malaysia Sports School, Sports School Juniors, SM Datuk Taha, Telekom Pahang, Johor sports Council and Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar have sent in their list.
League champions Tenaga Nasional, who are based in Kuala Lumpur, said they would submit their list today.
There has been no word from the other teams.
MHF secretary S. Satgunam said that they would now extend the registration date to Tuesday.
This, he said, would be the final extension and that teams who do not submit their lists would be left out.
“The extension of the registration deadline was at the request of the teams,” he said.
“We felt that it was a reasonable request at that time. But only eight teams have submitted the list. We will have to rethink the extension.
“I think that if this is the attitude, then we should just go by the rules and expect teams lists with the entries,” added Satgunam.
The league is slated to start on Feb 7.
