MADRID: Deportivo Coruna goalkeeper Jose Molina will return to training later this month after a successful course of treatment to deal with testicular cancer, the Spanish First Division club said on Friday.
“Following a conversation between (club president) Augusto Cesar Lendoiro, Jose Molina and medical staff, the president of Deportivo would like to announce that the player will recommence sporting activity with the club on Jan 20,” said a statement on the club’s website.
The 32-year-old former Spanish international, who had an operation on a testicular lump in June 2001, gave up football for an indefinite period after a malignant tumour was detected in a routine medical at the beginning of October last year.
Deportivo announced that a subsequent course of chemotherapy had been completely successful in treating the tumour. “The latest tests done on the player confirm that he has completely recovered from illness,” the club said. – Reuters
