SABHA (Libya): Former Paris-Dakar rally winner Kenjiro Shinozuka was in a coma and fighting for his life after a crash in yesterdays eighth stage of the 2003 event.
The 54-year-old, Japan's most distinguished rally driver, and his French co-driver Thierry Delli-Zotti were both seriously hurt when their Nissan pick-up went over a sand dune halfway through the 727-km stage between Ghat and Sabha in Libya.
Shinozuka is now in a coma with a serious facial concussion, rally doctor Christian Noel told French television. His blood pressure is now stabilised. Were taking him to Tunis where a further diagnosis will be made. Hes not in a condition to go further than Tunis. Were planning to fly him to Paris later. Reuters
