DARMSTADT (Germany): Middle-distance runner Surreya Ayhan of Turkey was surprisingly named 2002 European Athlete of the Year while British sprinter Dwain Chambers took top honours in the mens vote, the European Athletics Association announced on Wednesday.
The EAA said that Ayhan, 24, benefited from a new voting system in which the fans have a big saying through an internet poll.
