Pahang sign Brazilian Soares to beef up squad

KUANTAN: Pahang have signed on a Brazilian midfielder to join the six national players in their team for the M-League this year. 

The player is 26-year-old Helton Soares and he will arrive here on Saturday and will be available for a quadrangular tournament in Malacca from Jan 22-26. 

Pahang FA vice-president, Datuk Abdul Jamal Nasir, said that Soares was from a Qatari club and he was familiar with the team's Brazilian coach Borges Fereira. 

He added that Pahang now have a formidable side for their challenge in Premier I with the signing of the six national players – Ahmad Shahruddin Rosdi, Muhammed Juzaili Samion, Mohd Fadzli Shaari, Hairuddin Omar, Subri Sulong and Rosdi Talib. 

The Pahang players for the new season signed contracts with the FA at the Darulmakmur Stadium here yesterday. A total of 53 players, including those in the President's Cup squad, were present at the contract-signing ceremony. 

Besides the six national players, the others in the Premier I team are Zuraimi Hassan, Mohd Iqbal Mohd Suhaimi, M. Hairul Nizam Haniff, Mohd Sufian Sallehuddin, Azizul Kamaluddin, Hairul Nizam Man, Ahmad Izwan Maarup, Ahmad Norhapiza Bashri, Shahrulnizam Sahat, Jalaluddin Jaafar, Suhaizi Sulaiman, Iskandar Zulkarnain Abu Kasim and Mohd Azmani Abdul Kadir.
