PARIS: Brazilian World Cup star Ronaldinho has been fined an undisclosed sum by French giants Paris St Germain for his late return from Brazil after the Christmas holiday, the club said on Sunday.

The 22-year-old only returned to training on Friday, almost a week after his teammates, after claiming he had stayed in Brazil to undergo dental treatment.

“(Club president) Laurent Perpere had a long meeting with Ronaldinho on Friday,” said a PSG spokesman.

“He told him he was being fined for his unjustified late return. This was accompanied by a warning.

“As far as the president is concerned, the matter is now closed.”

The club's embattled manager Luis Fernandez on Saturday urged Ronaldinho to dedicate himself 100 percent to the club and predicted PSG could be crowned champions for the first time since 1994 if Ronaldinho reproduced the form he displayed last season. – AFP
