ALOR STAR: Midfielder Ooi Hoe Guan will don Kedah colours again this season.
The 30-year-old Hoe Guan is making a return to the team after eight seasons with Penang and he was among the five players who signed a one-year contract with the Kedah FA at the Wisma Darulaman Operations Room yesterday.
The others were Penang's G. Shanmugam and Zool Ihsan Yunus, Kelantan’s Mohd Azman Yusoff and Kedah LADA striker Azli Ahmad.
Hoe Guan was a member of the Kedah team who won the President’s Cup in 1992.
But he was unable to command a regular place in the senior team in the following two years with the likes of Lim Teong Kim, Radhi Mat Din and Jalaini Wilastra making the midfield their domain.
In 1994, Hoe Guan made the move to Penang and won two Premier League crowns and an FA Cup winners' medals with the Panthers.
“I am grateful to Penang for giving me the chance to play first-team soccer. I have done enough to repay them and it is time for me to give the remaining years of my career to my home state, Kedah,” said Hoe Guan.
“Hopefully I can end my career with a Malaysia Cup winners' medal to complete my collection. I have winners' medals in the President’s Cup, FA Cup and League Cup,” said Hoe Guan.
With the signing of striker Mohd Azman, Kedah will have three Kelantanese in their ranks. The other two are Che Hishamuddin Hassan and Zainuddin Mohd Ariffin.
Azli from LADA will be extra cover for the Kedah strikeforce which will have Senegal forward Matar Diop.
Kedah have decided to extend the contract of Diop but they have dropped Ghanaian defender Emmanuel Kofi Ambiah.
