KOTA BARU: The Kelantan FA (Kafa) have added to the long list of “silly season” stories in Malaysian football. They have slapped a six-month ban on their former skipper Tuan Kamree Tuan Yahya – weeks after terminating his contract.
Tuan Kamree, who has since joined Johor FC, was banned for gross misconduct, was banned from Sept 24. Kafa, who were upset with the player for going to the FA of Malaysia over non-payment of salaries, had terminated his contract on Aug 31.
Johor FC are confused over the ban and have asked Tuan Kamree to file an appeal with Kafa.
“We are quite confused with the ban. Johor FC are not sure if Kelantan can ban a player who is no longer on their payroll. Terminating a player’s contract is already considered a punishment,” said Johor FC secretary Tahir Hamdan secretary.
The FA of Malaysia, meanwhile, are not amused.
FAM secretary-general Datuk Dell Akbar Khan clarified yesterday that teams could not ban players who were out of contract. “We know of the Kelantan situation and we have informed Kafa that any such ban would not be valid.”
