BEIJING: Dutch First Division outfit Heerenveen has shown interest in Chinese star Qu Bo (pic), who impressed Tottenham Hotspur manager Glenn Hoddle in a trial this season but was denied a work permit.
The China-based Sports Weekly said Heerenveen was keen on Qu but so far had taken no action.
Club officials watched him play in a friendly between China and a Catalan select team at Barcelona’s Nou Camp last week, the paper said.
In 2000, Heerenveen expressed interest in Li Tie, now an Everton star, but took it no further.
Qu, a lightning-quick 21-year-old who can play in a range of forward positions, was denied an English work permit because he had not played enough games for the Chinese national team.
At the time Hoddle said he was impressed but warned Qu was not yet English Premiership standards. – AFP
