ALOR STAR: The Kedah FA will appeal to the FA of Malaysia for a second team from the state to compete in the FAM Cup qualifying round tournament, which will be held in March.

Only four teams from the qualify tournament, which will be played at the Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya, from March 8-29, will join 12 teams in the tournament proper. The qualifying tournament involves the champions of the respective state leagues.

Majlis Perbandaran Kota Star (MPKS) are the Kedah champions but the FA felt that the runners-up, Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA), should also be given a crack at getting into the FAM Cup competition.

The FA secretary, Abu Hassan Ahmad, said: “Mada are as good as Kota Star, who pipped them to our league title on goal difference.”

Last year, Kota Star failed to qualify for the competition. This season, Kedah will have at least three teams in the competition.

JKR Kedah, who were in Premier II for the past two seasons, have been relegated to the FAM Cup. The other two Kedah teams in the fray are Kulim District FA (Ansell Kulim FC) and Langkawi's LADA FC.
