ADELAIDE: South African top seed Wayne Ferreira began the New Year disastrously with a straight sets defeat to unseeded Argentinian Franco Squillari in the opening round of the Australian Men’s Hardcourt Tennis Championship at Memorial Drive here yesterday.
Squillari, the world number 77, upset the 38th-ranked Ferreira 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
