Qabil Irfan sizzles at Jerez Circuit after winning Race 1 of the Talent Cup category in the Spanish Superbike Championship.
PETALING JAYA: Qabil Irfan's decision to forgo Hari Raya celebrations and focus on bike training paid off when he won the season opening race of the Talent Cup category in the Spanish Superbike Championship at Jerez Circuit on Saturday (April 5).
The 13-year-old earned a perfect start to his European racing season by winning Race 1 of the newly introduced racing category.
He finished the 14-lap Race 1 in 26:22.845s ahead of Spaniards Izan Rodriguez and Andres Garcia.
Qabil started the race from fifth on the grid, having clocked 2:02.561s in qualifying earlier in the day.
Qabil, who is racing for Frando Racing VHC Team Liqui Moly, did not have the chance to test the NSF250R machine as he had to miss the pre-season test session in Jerez last month due to floods.
He had to make do with testing at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) last week to prepare for this weekend's campaign in Jerez.
