PETALING JAYA: Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah earned another podium finish for JDT Racing Team after coming in third in Race 1 of the ASB1000 category in Round 3 of the Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) in Motegi, Japan, yesterday.

The race was red flagged after nine laps following a collision between pole-sitter Yuki Kunii of SDG Team Harc-Pro Honda and Nakarin Atiratphuvapat of Honda Asia-Dream Racing with Astemo.

It was Hafizh who took the lead after the race restarted but the Malaysian rider was eventually overtaken by Sho Nishimura of TKKR BMW Racing Team and Nakarin.

Japanese Nishimura went on to win the race in 16:44.222s ahead of Nakarin (16:44.314s) while Hafizh rounded off the podium for Malaysia with 16:44.803s.

It is the third podium for Hafizh in the ARRC after finishing second at Chang International Circuit in Thailand and first at Zhuhai International Circuit in China.

“This race was incredibly challenging, particularly due to the hazardous conditions on the second lap of Race 1 where I had to navigate through oil spills,” said Nishimura.

“Despite the initial setback and the subsequent red flag, I managed to regain my focus.

“I am very happy to clinch victory. I’m determined to maintain my focus and strive for another victory in Race 2.”

Thailand’s Apiwath Wongthananon from Yamaha Tekhne Racing Team Asia won the SS600 category in 22:57.221s ahead of Japan’s Kengo Nagao of Team Kenken (22:57.440s) and Indonesian Adenanta Putra of Astra Honda Racing Team (23:01.889s).
