Hakim keeps pace till the end for podium spot

PETALING JAYA: Hakim Danish Ramli fought until the end to finish third in Race 1 of the fourth- round European Talent Cup (ETC).

The 14-year-old, who rides for SIC Racing, completed the 16-lap race with a time of 27:26.844 at the Jerez Circuit in Cadiz, Spain, on Sunday.

Aspar Junior Team’s Dodo Boggio and Estrella Galicia’s Brian Uriarte took the top two spots with times of 27:26.670 and 27:26.693 respectively.

Danish, however, could not continue the momentum in Race 2 due to technical issues with his bike, as he could only finish 11th with a time of 27:42.289.

Again, Boggio and Uriarte finished first and second with times of 27:33.914 and 27:34.034. Visiontrack Racing’s Casey O’Gorman came in third in 27.34.990.

“In Race 1, I felt confident with myself, and I had a strong pace. I started the race well and overtook a few riders in the first turn. Then, step by step, I overtook and tried as hard as possible to be in the front,” he said.

“I was aiming to win the race, but Dodo and Brian were too strong with their pace. Despite that, I’m happy to be on the podium for the second time.

“In Race Two, there were issues with my clutch and gearing. As a result, I struggled to stay with the front group. However, things like these can happen in racing, and I am still happy with my overall performance this weekend.”

Hakim’s first podium finish was in the first round when he came in second in Race 2 at the Estoril Circuit in Portugal.
