PETALING JAYA: It’s all about gaining experience for Jazeman Jaafar at this weekend’s 24 Hours of Le Mans race.
The 29-year-old has been named as the reserve for the JOTA team in the race in Paris and he wants to build on his experience to eventually make the starting line of the prestigious race next year.
Six drivers and a reserve will represent the JOTA team, who are fielding two machines for the LMP2 category.
The JOTA team are in a close collaboration with Jazeman for the Technology Transfer Apprenticeship Programme (TTAP) that started last year.
It’s a talent development programme with an understanding of basic engineering and management principles, especially in motorsports at the international level.
Jazeman said a reserve driver would still play an important role in an endurance race.
“We have to help with many aspects that are required by the team before the race,” said Jazeman.
“The reserve needs to make a race simulation for feedback before the car set-up and strategy of the race.
“During the race week, the reserve has to provide input regarding the analysis of the riders from the other teams and make an analysis of the condition of the machinery throughout the session.
“The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the most prestigious endurance race in the world and I hope that there is a chance for me to return as a driver next year.
“I will also use this opportunity to prepare for Round 3 of the European Le Mans Series in Monza next month,” he added.
At least 12 former Formula 1 drivers will be on driving duties in this weekend’s race.
