Damok eyes Moto3 Rookie of the Year title next year

PETALING JAYA: Rider Syarifuddin Azman wants to justify his participation in the Moto3 world championships next year by winning the Rookie of the Year title.

Syarifuddin, popularly known by his nickname Damok, is set to earn a full season ride in Moto3 of the world championship.

However, his new team will only be revealed next week pending few details yet to be ironed out with Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

The list of riders for the Moto3 grid next year has yet to be finalised but Syarifuddin has a good idea of his rivals for the rookie title.

“I was really happy when manager Zulfahmi Khairuddin broke the news about my move to the Moto3 world championship next year,” said the 20-year-old, who has been racing in the Moto3 World Junior Championship for the past two years.

“It was my target to spend only two years in the junior event before moving up.

“I am grateful for this opportunity and I will work hard to prepare myself for next season.

“My target is to fight for the Rookie of the Year crown.

“A few riders from the Moto3 World Junior Championship will also move up next year, so I am quite familiar with my rivals,” he added.

Syarifuddin, who won at the Catalunya round in June, is 14th in the Moto3 World Junior Championship standings with 44 points.

The final two races of the season will take place at Valencia from Nov 19 to 21.
