Ride on: Azroy Hakeem Anuar en route to winning the CP150 race, his first of the season.

KUALA LUMPUR: Azroy Hakeem Anuar picked up the perfect wedding gift when he won his first CP150 race this season.

The 22-year-old, who tied the knot during the extended championship hiatus due to Covid-19, won the 11-lap Round 3 race of the Petronas Malaysian Cub Prix Championship in 16:25.297 at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) North Track yesterday.

Azroy, who started second on the grid, showcased his ability to conquer wet conditions as he finished 6.8 seconds ahead of second-placed Izzat Saidi.

Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin, was the last man to snatch the podium, a distant 26 seconds behind.

“The rain definitely played to our advantage,” said Azroy.

“We were tracking the weather very closely to see which setup we needed to activate for the race.

“When the rain started during the CP125 final, I was feeling confident that we would be able to pick up a win.”

The victory sent Azroy to the top of the championship leaderboard with 45 points, four ahead of Izzat.

Meanwhile, Hafiza Rofa also powered his way to a first CP125 win of the season following some deft slipstreaming moves at the last corner of the final lap.

Hafiza crossed the finish line with 13:15.516 while Fareez Afeez Rahman and Harith Farhan Baharin came in second and third respectively.

The championship resumes with Round 4 on the same track today.
