Nazim hopes for Bullish times ahead after maiden EuroFormula win

Flying high: Nazim Azman secured the perfect Malaysia Day gift after claiming his first win in the EuroFormula Open at Red Bull Ring in Austria.

PETALING JAYA: Nazim Azman earned a timely Malaysia Day present with his first win in the EuroFormula Open at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

The 20-year-old emerged victorious in Race 2 on Sunday as he became the seventh different race winner of the 2021 season so far.

Nazim, who drives for CryptoTower Racing Team, finished sixth in the first of three races before going on to top the podium in the second race, clocking in at 34:00.256.

Turkey’s Cem Bolukbasi of Van Amersfoort Racing finished 0.732 behind in second place while Nazim’s teammate Louis Foster of Britain came in third at 34:02.250.

Nazim was placed fourth in the final race of the weekend.

Nazim is the first Malaysian winner of the EuroFormula Open series and he is delighted to fly the Jalur Gemilang proudly on European soil.

“Obviously a good start, number one. It was quite hard to be fair, Cem (Bolukbasi) was very quick. And then I think the main thing was not to make any mistakes and it paid off.

“It was good, because Foster had a battle as well with Cameron (Cameron Das of Team Motopark), so it just left me and Cem alone. Overall, I am really happy with the result,” said Nazim, who is based in the United Kingdom while going through his undergraduate studies.

It is also the seventh podium success for Nazim in the championship this year.

After 17 races, Nazim now lies fourth in the championship with 208 points as Foster leads with 257 points. The remaining two rounds in the series will be held in Monza, Italy, end of this month and in Barcelona, Spain next month.
