Helmi’s new target: Win back-to-back CP150 titles

PETALING JAYA: Reigning CP150 champion Mohd Helmi Azman has confirmed his ride with the Hi Rev SCK Honda Racing Team for the 2021 Malaysian Cub Prix Championship.

The 22-year-old has his sights set on a new target – to join the elite group of riders who have won back-to-back titles in the championship’s premier class.

“I am really glad to renew my collaboration with the Hi Rev SCK Honda Racing Team. I believe we are close to 90% ready for the new season.

“Extending my working relationship with the same team has given me a lot of confidence. All I hope is that this season will proceed smoothly without any interruptions, ” said Helmi.

The last premier class rider to clinch consecutive titles was Ahmad Afif Amran in 2018 and 2019. Other big names that have accomplished the same feat in the 27-year history of the Malaysian Cub Prix Championship include the late M. Meganathan, Chia Tuck Cheong, the late Norizman Ismail, Ahmad Fazli Sham, Ahmad Fuad Kamaruzaman and Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin.

Additionally, the Hi Rev SCK Honda Racing Team have also renewed their contract with rookie rider Izam Ikmal Izamli who displayed tremendous progress in 2020.

The team’s CP150 stable will have three riders but the identity of the third rider has yet to be confirmed.
