Lap record puts Azroy back on track for CP150 crown

Azroy Hakeem Anuar posted the fastest time in qualifying for the CP150 category in the Petronas Malaysian Cub Prix Championship at Sepang North Track.

PETALING JAYA: Azroy Hakeem Anuar has revived a chance to win the CP150 title in the Petronas Malaysian Cub Prix Championship.

He finally showed the true capacity of his Idemitsu Honda Yuzy Racing motorcycle when he posted a new lap record at the Sepang North Track by clocking 1:16.426.

Azroy’s blistering lap was clocked at the CP150 qualifier for Round 7 yesterday.

With only two rounds remaining on the calendar, the tie-breaker between Azroy and best friend Mohd Helmi Azman from team Hi Rev SCK Honda Racing will be the focal point of the grand finale.

“This lap record has given me a lot of confidence that my team and I are on the right track preparing for the final fight, ” said Azroy, who is tied with Helmi on 107 points.

Hi Rev SCK Honda Racing duo Izam Ikmal Izamli and title contender Helmi were second and third quickest respectively with 1:17.090 and 1:17.289.

Other riders who managed to make the cut for the CP150 SuperPole include Mohd Akid Aziz (Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor), Mohd Khairul Ikhwan Ajis (AHM Motorsports Yamaha), Mohd Aiman Tahiruddin (Petronas Sprinta Yamaha-CKJ Racing), Mohd Amirul Ariff Musa (Idemitsu Honda Yuzy Racing), Mohd Haziq Mohd Fairus (Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor), Mohd Affendi Rosli (Petronas Sprinta Yamaha-CKJ Racing) and Mohd Izzat Zaidi Mohd Salehan (IPONE Yamaha YY Pang Racing).

Ironically, Ahmad Fazli Sham, who had celebrated a big win in Round 6 just a few days ago, will start Round 7 from the back of the grid when mechanical problems during the CP150 qualifier prevented him from posting the time he needed.

Meanwhile, Mohd Hafiza Rofa from the ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team topped the CP125 timesheets with 1:22.094. Mohd Syafieq Aiman Mohd Fauzi from the ONEXOX Racing Team was second quickest with 1:22.267.
