Petronas Sprinta expect only the best from duo

PETALING JAYA: Nothing but the best is expected from Petronas Sprinta Racing Moto3 riders John McPhee and Khairul Idham Pawi at the Portugal Grand Prix in Algarve International Circuit in Portimao this weekend.

McPhee has not raced at the Portimao circuit previously but he will not let the unfamiliar ground stop him from returning to the front of the field in the final race of the season.

“Last weekend wasn’t the best, but we hope to end the season strong. I’ve never been to the Portimao circuit, it’s different but I’ve seen a lot of videos from there and it looks really nice, ” said McPhee.

“It will be difficult to learn the track but I think we can put up a really good fight to get back at the front.”

The 26-year-old is placed seventh in the championship standings with 124 points, while Albert Arenas of Aspar Team currently leads the riders championship with 170 points.

Khairul has previously raced at Algarve International Circuit, where he enjoyed a successful race at the Portuguese circuit in 2015, competing in the FIM CEV championship.

“Portimao is new on the MotoGP calendar but I’ve raced there before. I had a really good race and finished in the top-five, ” said Khairul, who has yet to collect a single point in the season.
