Can’t slow Maverick down

Stronger ties: Maverick Vinales says his relationship with Yamaha gets better every year.

Former world champion Maverick Vinales is used to being on the fast lane. So, it’s hard to be at home without any races due to Covid-19 but the Spanish rider has found ways to navigate through the quiet season.

Q: Maverick, how are you managing your time during this Covid-19 situation?

A: The situation here where I’m at in Andorra is under control. We can leave home every two days for one hour on the streets, which is good. At home, I do indoor cycling and a few fitness drills. I’m not doing too many things, I enjoy it being quiet too. After all, the Championship will only start later. I’m doing things that I did not do before because of my racing commitments, like organising my home, reading books, playing the guitar and spending time on the PS4 (PlayStation Four). All the riders, including you, have been entertaining the MotoGP fans by racing in the MotoGP eSport Championship. How has it been so far?It has been fantastic. It is enjoyable for everyone and also for the fans of MotoGP because they can enjoy a little bit during this quarantine period. We want to show fans a little fun and also show that the riders want to do things for them, which is very important. For sure, this virtual racing is different from riding a motorcycle but you need to keep your concentration. That’s good for us because we train our ability to focus. It is challenging to do a perfect race but I’ve to say the gamers are very, very fast. This Championship is only among the MotoGP riders. It’s good that we can battle each other and test our speed and gaming capabilities. It’s as competitive as the races on circuit! Everyone gets frustrated when they lose – it is that competitive.
