Petronas duo in fine form ahead of season opener

PETALING JAYA: Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team riders Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo concluded the final pre-season MotoGP test in Qatar on a positive note as they placed second and fourth fastest respectively.

Both riders took their Yamaha bikes out under race simulation set-up on Monday evening.

Morbidelli did 52 laps and his best was clocked at 1:53.891 which placed the Italian second fastest.

His French teammate did 58 laps and clocked his fastest time of 1:54.038.

Team principal Datuk Razlan Razali was pleased to see both riders on the mark with the first round of the world championships taking place less than two weeks’ time at the same circuit in Losail.

“Franco and Fabio are getting more comfortable on their respective machines and have simulated many different situations for the race.

“It looks tight at the top of the standings, especially the top-six, but we are confident our boys will be there come the Qatar race, ” he said.
