Azlan shows he’s the one to chase in ASB1000


PETALING JAYA: Malaysian rider Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman warmed up for the ASB1000 qualifying by posting the fastest time during free practice in the third round of the FIM Asia Road Racing Champion­ship.

The Onexox TKKR SAG Team rider clocked 1:35.518 at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, yesterday.

His compatriot Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi was second quickest with 1:36.274 while Thai Apiwat Wong­­tha­nanon (1:36.416) came in third.

In the Supersports 600, Thailand’s Peerapong Boonlert was quickest with 1:40.212 putting him on course for his 33rd Buriram podium for Yamaha Thailand.

Looking to stop Peerapong’s reign are Malaysian duo Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin and Adam Norrodin.

Kasma was second quickest with 1:40.345 while Adam posted 1:40.985 to lock down the provisional front row.

Malaysia’s Mohd Akid Aziz broke the lap record in the Underbone 150cc category by 0.024s to take provisional pole.

The UMA Racing Yamaha Maju Motor Asia Team rider recorded 1:59.974 and was the only rider among the 30-man grid to lap below two minutes.
